What does Heidar Baba mean?

Mohammad Hossein Shahriar, the author of Heydar Baba, was an Iranian poet who wrote in both Azerbaijani Turkish and Persian. His work, especially Heydar Baba-ya Salam ("Greetings to Heydar Baba"), is considered one of the most celebrated poems in Azerbaijani literature.

Shahriar’s deep connection to his homeland, culture, and traditions is evident in the poem, which captures childhood nostalgia and the beauty of rural life near the Heydar Baba mountain. Though Iranian, his influence spans Azerbaijani and Persian literary traditions, and his poetry resonates with many for its emotional depth and simplicity.
